Here There Be Wild Boars

Seen on the main campus of the university I work at:

Beware.

UPDATE: An anonymous commenter has directed me to this clip of wild boars wandering the streets of Kobe.

  3. Kylops,

Is this video a joke? I visited Kobe in 1999 and can't, just can't imagine a scene like that. Wild boars wandering the streets like that? What happened to that place?

  4. Claudia,
My university is located just outside Miyazaki, so it's probably not so strange that forest animals might sometimes come out snooping for food. I'm fairly certain that the Kobe video isn't a joke, but that sort of thing is probably a bit unusual. And as you can see in the video, the boars don't look especially vicious!

  5. I'm sure it's not joke. Higashinada ward office of Kobe warns foreigners in English about wild boar of urban area.

As you know, Mt. Rokko, national park, is located by downtown of Kobe. They come from there, I suppose.

  6. Sorry, guys, to be so ignorant about Japan. It has been a while since I went there (more than ten years). I was a tourist and being from a country like Brazil, I was really impressed with all the buildings, clean streets and the orderly way of things. You have so many people in your country that I got the impression that wild animals were a thing of the past. But then again, I have to learn more about Japan...
