  1. The last three posts are quite solar.

    It's Monday in Japan now, is it raining today? Hope not. You look like the kind of guy that does not work properly with grey all around.

  2. Claudia,
    I've become quite used to being grey! It was sunny here for a couple of days, but now it's raining again.
    :-(

  3. I think I have a clue to what you say about getting used to being gray. I have lived in England for 4 years and you can imagine what it feels like to a "carioca" to live in the land of fog and rain.

    Sorry to come up with The Carpenters again, but this is a bunch of lines that explain a lot what I felt when living in that island:

    "Nothin' is really wrong;

    Feelin' like I don't belong;

    Walkin' around, some kind of lonely clown..."

  4. Claudia,
    That sounds a bit like the first few years I lived here--a stranger in a strange land.

  5. And all that time I knew it was temporary, that I would be home in 1995. Maybe that's why I didn't get totally desperate. I am not sure I would handle a whole life in a strange land, feeling like an alien 24 hours a day.

    But then you constructed a new life for you, started a family and had a kid. You are very brave, my friend!

  6. Claudia,
    Being an existential kinda guy I don't exactly feel "at home" *anywhere*! But it certainly helps if one speaks the same language and has some common cultural referents. I consider myself to be more "practical" than "brave," but thanks!
