I used to think that kind of construction techniques were exclusive from Mexico, where we knock down entire sections of the supporting walls just to get better views.

Heh, Haligonians (people from Halifax) may be like the "Mexicans of Canada". It's always a good time for a festival!

I think it was probably a hotel back in the day. It's interesting to note, though, that it's on the same street that would become Halifax's (rather small, er... so I hear!) red light district.
