Glenn, This place was built (I think) around 1950. It often surprises me how building/architectural styles are so closely mirrored in various US/Canada places. One thing you won't find anywhere in Canada (that I'm aware of) is the "grand" Greco-Roman style seen (I think especially) in American capitol buildings and monuments. Very British on the Canadian side of the border! You "republicans" and you're concrete and marble...! ;-) On a related topic, now that you've got me started (!), I'm always blown away by Baltimore whenever I watch Homicide or The Wire--I'd swear they shot some of those scenes in Halifax...
Hi Rick, Nice photo, I don't remember seeing this library. We visited Halifax a while back and some parts of it sort of reminded me of Atlanta, before Atlanta got so big. And I visited Baltimore once and it sort of reminded me of New Orleans, but that might have been the fried seafood rather than the architecture. thanks, sp
Hi Sussah, We got fried seafood in Halifax too! ;-) And thanks for not noticing my big spelling mistake (too big to call a typo) in my comment to Glenn! :-)
Holy Cow! Nice condition for a photo shot in 1957. Did Nova Scotia have the WPA, too?
ReplyDeleteGlenn,
